Author’s note: Written for Legendland, I do not own characters, but all ideas are my own

She did not know how to act.

For the first time in her life, she felt awkward. She. Death’s Mistress.
Things were no longer simple. She had no one to answer to, and for the first time in her life. She LIVED.

The air smelled a little sweeter, the world around her appeared brighter. She was not entirely comfortable with the situation. She was enthralled with life. This did not bode well...

For so long, her life was at the beck and call of another. Growing up, she listened to her mother. With the Order, it was Brother Narev, and then came the Palace. She did as she was told, to her detriment.

Power came easy to her, she thirsted for it. But always as a pawn for another, she was an instrument. Someone to be feared, a sorceress of unparalleled abilities.

Now, given a choice, she chose to live.

Richard, her foe and target at one point had upturned her world. He made her feel when she thought she was dead. This was something she was not entirely comfortable with.

Magic was her domain, but it was no longer just a profession.

Her life, with a battered and scarred past, was now hers and hers alone.

She had her own destiny now, with the inklings of dared dreams and wants. It scared the stuffing out of her.

She thought of Richard now. He was definitely a mystery to her, a blessing. He faced every battle and every problem whole-heartedly, never holding back, never giving up. This trait, which she once found annoying now put a smile on her face and gave her a sense of hope.

From each task he did, from the simplest things such as gathering firewood to whittling a toy from a piece of driftwood, Richard simply gave all of himself. Nicci could see the way he seemed to enthral everyone with his presence, even she was not immune.

His warm smile and soft brown eyes twinkled when near a comrade, but could change to a steely gray when near foe. His blade, always at the ready lay in its scabbard on his hips, the Sword of Truth never far.

His entire carriage was that of a warrior although he moved in battle as if a zephyr, mist-like and everywhere at once. Big and bold, yet as graceful as a dancer, he was truly a sight to behold.

She learned a lot from watching him; he seemed to almost charm people, making them see his way even within disagreements. Even though she was once his teacher, she felt like it were he that taught her.

His magic was innate, only he could not quite master it. She knew magic inside and out, yet she had a hard time figuring out him. They both were in a never ending learning process.

All that she knew was that she believed in him. She believed in the possibility of life. Not as something to be quelled, controlled, nor used, but to be lived. Such a thing was a novelty to her, but truly opened her eyes.

Whatever powers she had, they would be used to aid the Seeker. He had given her back her life, for this she was incredulous, yet amazed.
It was definitely something to get used to...

Title: The Sword
Author:[livejournal.com profile] zephyrmyst
Character: Richard
Rating: PG-13
Word count: 222

Always aware. ...

He could not remember his life before the blade. Sure he had used one before, but definitely not one the calibre of the Sword of Truth, and certainly not one that seemed to be a magical extension of him.

His days as a woodsman seemed like another time, another era. Richard Cypher was now Richard Rahl.

Now on his quest and new life as the Seeker, he made it his priority to learn his craft. The fact that he not only a wizard, but a war wizard complicated things. He was only able to depend on his power through the steel.

Steel, he knew. The feel of it, the cold weight, balanced just right in his hands. It granted mercy and it granted death. He was master and slave to it.
He knew that when the time came, he would call on it and its power. It would heed his call.

The extension of it both fuelled and hindered him. He knew he had to be true to himself, or it would not work. He had to believe in himself, the blade knew a lie. Many lives were at stake and that he could not risk.

For all the fighting he did, the most battling was done with himself.

Wizard’s eight rule; “Talga Vassternic”. Deserve Victory

Blade be true.
